Whistler and Mount Baker Both Getting Set to Kick Off Season Early - What Other NW Ski Areas Will Be Next

Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia raised some eyebrows last week when they announced they were opening Whistler mountain tomorrow November 19th - a full week ahead of schedule.  According to their site, they have a base of 30" at mid-mountain - and they will be having mandatory downloading tomorrow (meaning that the bottom will not be open).  We're excited to get up there and help them celebrate their 50th season this year!

Mount Baker in Washington state is also getting ready to open tomorrow - but they've been a bit more cautious with their optimism.  They didn't actually announce it for sure until this morning.  They say they made it through the warm front - and it's once again snowing with a 37 inch base at Heather Meadows and over 60" at the top of Pan Dome.

Apparently during last night's storm there was some damage to Highway 542, which will add some traffic delays.  Kind of super-psyched up to get this winter started - may just have to drive up there anyway ...

But then again, Crystal Mountain says they may be opening on Friday ...
